Welcome to the Theatre in the Quarter website
Theatre in the Quarter is Chester’s leading professional theatre company. Founded in 2005, it has gained a strong reputation for commissioning highly acclaimed unique and original musical productions, engaging with professional actors, musicians, directors and designers from Cheshire and the North West, as well as over 500 members of the community, of all ages and abilities. Past projects include Some Sunny Day, Sweet Sixteen, The Twelve Days of Christmas, Garden Lane – The Musical and Silent Night.
Its original productions draw inspiration from the lives and experiences of the people of Chester and surrounding areas. The work of the company is supported by Arts Council England, Cheshire West and Chester Council and through partnerships and sponsorships from Chester Racecourse, University of Chester and other businesses and companies. Theatre in the Quarter also works with other arts organisations in making exciting projects happen.

Reviews of Home for Christmas
THEATRE in the Quarter, Chester's bustling little professional company, has another triumph on its hands. Home for Christmas, the seasonal offering now touring schools, village halls and churches around the city, is a worthy successor to last year's Silent Night – and that's high praise indeed. Very different, it entertains with the same excellent, innovative, atmospheric theatre, packed with humour, music, song, drama. – and all on a postage stamp stage. (Peggy Woodcock, Chester Chronicle)
Stories told by Chester and Cheshire residents of life on WWII’s Home Front have been woven into a wonderful evening’s entertainment – performed in both professional and community venues this is a fantastic production that deserves to be toured more widely...
The performers were skilful and versatile working in an effortless ensemble style thanks to Russ Tunney’s light handed direction. All the performers also sang, both original songs (composed to suit the 40s style) and songs from the period, supported fantastically by a community choir, stylishly turned out in period costumes.
